WORLD JAZZ RECITAL Internationally renowned Cuban pianist Miguel de Armas is a versatile jazz pianist and composer, he moved to Canada in 2011, bringing with him a rich and sophisticated musical heritage gleaned over many years of study, performance and creation. As co-founder of N.G. La Banda —one of Cuba’s most legendary timba bands— de Armas packed concert halls around the world. He has recorded over 60 albums, and collaborated with renowned Cuban and international musicians. Bassist JP Lapensée is an active bass player and bass teacher in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. He studied music at Carleton University. He regularly records and performs in many festivals with many bands such as the Billy Love Band (Rock), HML Trio (jazz), The Prime Rib Big Band, Fiesta Cubana (Cuban Timba), Rommel Ribeiro Band (Brazilian Music/World), The Chocolate Hot Pockets (Jazz/Hip-Hop/Fusion), 33z and many more. Cristina Sayén is a Chilean-Canadian vocalist. Her repertoire includes Latin American folk songs, salsa, merengue, pop, ballads, boleros and Latin jazz. She sings and performs in English, French and Spanish. In 2005, one of her compositions was selected to represent Canada in the Viña del Mar festival in Chile before an audience of 25,000.
